Madhya Pradesh has become the leading state in spice crop production in the country, with farmers achieving a record-breaking output of over 54 lakh tonnes of spices in the 2023-24 season. Over the past four years, the state has seen an increase of approximately 2.16 lakh metric tonnes in spice production. Horticulture and Food Processing Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha congratulated the farmers for this achievement, attributing it to their hard work and dedication.

Encouraging the Promotion of Spice Crops:

The Minister emphasized the importance of cultivating commercial crops like coriander, turmeric, chili, ginger, garlic, and cumin alongside traditional crops. These spice crops can be grown in a shorter period and fetch good prices in the market, making them a potential additional income source for farmers.

Second Position in Chili Production:

Madhya Pradesh has secured the second position in chili production in the country. While Karnataka ranks first in the production of green chili, due to its favorable soil and climate, it produces 18.75% of the country's total chili output. Madhya Pradesh contributes 18.62% to the total chili production.

Subsidy on Flower Cultivation:

Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha also advised farmers to take up floriculture (flower farming) alongside spice crops. State and central governments also provide subsidies and other benefits in this sector. Additionally, government-run nurseries are supplying high-quality seeds and plants to farmers.

Cold Storage and Warehousing Support for Farmers: The Minister assured farmers of support in the food processing sector, stating that separate plans for cold storage, warehouses, and storage facilities have been formulated. Under these schemes, farmers will receive subsidies, training, and technical assistance to help them preserve and store their crops effectively.
