FCI and State Agencies Purchase 120.67 Lakh Metric Tons of Rice in Punjab

As of November 8, 2024, a total of 120.67 lakh metric tons of rice have been procured by state agencies and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) under the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25 in Punjab. The total market arrival of rice in Punjab’s mandis has reached 126.67 lakh metric tons, with 6.58 lakh farmers benefiting from the government’s MSP (Minimum Support Price) purchase, which has amounted to around ₹27,995 crore.

Rice Purchase Benefits 6.58 Lakh Farmers in Punjab:

The rice is being procured at the MSP of ₹2,320 per quintal for Grade a rice as fixed by the Government of India. This has resulted in significant financial benefits for farmers. So far, the government’s rice procurement in KMS 2024-25 has amounted to ₹27,995 crore, providing a direct benefit to approximately 6.58 lakh farmers in the state. Additionally, 4,839 millers have applied for rice husking, and 4,743 millers have already been allotted work by the Punjab State Government.

Rice Procurement in Punjab and Target for KMS 2024-25:

 Rice procurement for KMS 2024-25 began in Punjab on October 1, 2024. To ensure smooth procurement, 2,927 designated mandis and temporary yards have been set up across the state. The Government of India has set a target to procure 185 lakh metric tons of rice by November 30, 2024. There has been a large-scale procurement operation in the mandis, with rice being lifted in quantities exceeding the daily arrivals.
