Claims amounting to approximately 2,761.10 crore rupees under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) were pending until 2021-22, with the maximum pending claims in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. This information was conveyed to the Parliament on Tuesday.
Under the PMFBY, payments for approved claims are typically settled by the respective insurance companies within two months of the completion of the cutting period and within one month of the notification for delays in sowing, adverse mid-season weather, and post-harvest losses risks. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated, However, delays have occurred due to reasons such as delayed dissemination of crop data in some states, delayed release of their share in premium subsidy, and disputes related to crops between insurance companies and states. He mentioned in his written response in the Lok Sabha that according to the figures provided by the Ministry, claims worth around 2,761.10 crore rupees under the PMFBY were pending until the crop year 2021-22 (July-June).
