The central government has extended the registration deadline for the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme

The central government has extended the registration deadline for the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY), particularly relevant for farmers who missed the registration under this scheme. In Uttar Pradesh, the final date for enrolment for farmers has been extended to August 10. State officials mentioned that initially, the central government had set the registration deadline for PMFBY under pilot projects as July 31, but some states requested an extension to allow more farmers to participate in the scheme.

A senior official from the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Department stated, "In Uttar Pradesh, the registration deadline for the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) has been extended to August 10." According to an official from the Central Agriculture Ministry, the final registration deadline for PMFBY has been extended as follows: August 3 in Maharashtra, August 5 in Odisha and Assam, August 10 in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, August 15 in Goa, and August 16 in Manipur, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. The deadline has also been extended to August 7 for ginger producers in Meghalaya, according to central government officials.

During this period, the official stated that on July 30, the central government received the highest number of registrations in a single day when more than 4.85 million farmers from across the country enrolled for PMFBY for the 2023 Kharif season. Referring to the figures, they mentioned, "It broke the previous record of 4.11 million registrations in a single day for the 2019 season." According to the data, more than 30 million farmers across the country have registered for PMFBY for the 2023 Kharif season so far.
