Weather Today: Relief from Heat Remains Elusive, IMD Releases New Monsoon Update
Monsoon to Advance to Maharashtra, Odisha

The intense heat wave continues to grip most parts of the country, with temperatures soaring between 45 to 47 degrees Celsius in several areas. Northern India is experiencing the brunt of this scorching heat, while Southern India is witnessing heavy monsoon rains. Amid these contrasting weather conditions, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an update regarding the monsoon.

According to IMD, since the onset of the monsoon on June 1, the country has received approximately 20% less rainfall than average. The monsoon season, which has now spread across the country, is progressing slowly. As a result, the rainfall deficit is expected to persist through June. Observations from the IMD indicate that there has been no significant progress in the monsoon between June 12 and June 18.

Monsoon Arrival in Various States:

The IMD reports that the monsoon has arrived in Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and all northeastern states. Additionally, light rains have started in most parts of southern Maharashtra, parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar. This has brought some relief to these regions, although the overall rainfall is still below normal levels.

Monsoon Set to Advance to New Regions:

The IMD predicts that the monsoon will likely advance to Maharashtra weather, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, the Bay of Bengal region, Bihar weather, and Jharkhand within the next three to four days. However, it is noted that the monsoon's progress across India remains slow.

Despite the delayed monsoon, the IMD remains hopeful that the situation will improve in the coming weeks. Farmers and residents in the affected areas are eagerly awaiting the much-needed rainfall to alleviate the harsh summer conditions and support agricultural activities. The government is also monitoring the situation closely and is prepared to provide assistance where needed to mitigate the effects of the prolonged heat and delayed monsoon.
