In January, there was an escalation of cold and fog. As February begins, there is an increase in rain and intense cold weather. Residents in northern states are grappling with issues arising from the combination of rain and cold. Likewise, farmers are facing challenges due to the impact of this inclement weather update, on their crops. Simultaneously, the meteorological department has forecasted heavy rain in certain states over the next three days. The department reports the presence of an active western disturbance since Saturday, which will persist from February 3rd to February 5th, affecting regions from Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh.
According to the meteorological department, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan may encounter light to moderate rain on February 3rd and 4th, while Uttar Pradesh might witness it on February 4th and 5th. Some areas in Jammu, Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh may experience heavy rain or snowfall on February 4th. Continuous rain, known as "Olaavrishti," is a possibility in Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, and Northern Madhya Pradesh on February 4th.
As per the weather department, Arunachal Pradesh may witness light to moderate rain or snowfall from February 3rd to February 6th. West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura might experience rain on the third day.
Current temperature observations reveal that in most areas of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and the majority of West Bengal, minimum temperatures range between 11-15 degrees Celsius. In the northern part of the country, minimum temperatures are above normal. On Friday, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded in Amritsar, Punjab, at 4.8 degrees Celsius. Additionally, on Friday, there was recorded rainfall in Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Northwest Uttar Pradesh.
The meteorological department attributes the rainfall to an active cyclonic circulation in eastern Assam and its surrounding areas. Furthermore, a fresh western disturbance is in play, expected to impact northern India from February 3rd. Various weather changes are anticipated due to this disturbance. From February 3rd to 5th, light to moderate rain or snowfall is expected in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Expected Fog: On February 3rd, the weather department indicates the likelihood of dense to very dense fog in different parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Likewise, over the next 5 days, no significant change is expected in minimum temperatures in Northeast and Central India. There is a possibility of a 2-4 degree Celsius drop in minimum temperatures in various parts of eastern India during the next two days.
