Intense Rainfall Forecast for Northern India

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Rajasthan On August 6, the Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Western Rajasthan, with further heavy rainfall expected in Eastern Rajasthan on August 8 and 9. On August 5, rainfall measurements recorded from 08:30 to 17:30 IST revealed significant precipitation across the region. In Western Rajasthan, Pali experienced 25 mm of rain, Balotra received 19 mm, and Rohat saw 13 mm. Jalore recorded 10 mm, Ahore 9 mm, and Fatehgarh 7 mm. Phalodi had 4 mm, Jodhpur 3 mm, and Jaisalmer received 2 mm. Meanwhile, in Eastern Rajasthan, Nasirabad recorded 16 mm of rain, Pisangan 11 mm, and Ajmer and Srinagar both received 10 mm each. Pushkar saw 8 mm of rain, and Beawar experienced 7 mm.

Intense Rainfall Forecast for Northern India:

This week, light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan weather. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are also likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

Weather System Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that a depression over Pakistan and adjoining Northwest Rajasthan has moved west-northwestwards and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over central Pakistan as of 05:30 IST on August 6, 2024. It is expected to continue weakening into a low-pressure area over the next 12 hours. The monsoon trough at mean sea level now extends from the center of this low-pressure area in central Pakistan through Agra, Varanasi, Gaya, Jamshedpur, Contai, and southeastward to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

Agricultural Department Alert: Light of the heavy rainfall forecast, the Agricultural Meteorology Department has issued a warning for Rajasthan, expressing concerns about potential damage to crops including pearl millet, peanuts, cotton, guar, green gram, black gram, sesame, soybeans, and moth beans due to the excessive rain.
