Government Launches Chana Dal Under the Name 'Bharat Dal'

Chana Dal has been launched by the Government of India under the brand name 'Bharat Dal. Its one kg pack costs Rs 60, while the 30 kg pack will be sold at Rs 55 per kg. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal launched this Chana Dal on Monday. It will be sold at retail outlets of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) in Delhi-NCR. The launch of 'Bharat Dal' is a step taken by the Center to make pulses available to consumers at affordable prices by converting the government's Chana stock into Chana Dal ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Milling and packaging of chana dal is done by NAFED for distribution through its retail outlets in Delhi-NCR and outlets of NCCF, Kendriya Bhandar and Safal.

Under this arrangement, chana dal is also made available to state governments for their welfare schemes, police, jails and for distribution through their consumer cooperative shops. Chickpea is the most widely produced pulse in India and is consumed in many forms across the country.
