Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Farmers Will Get Compensation From Government if Crop is Damaged Here are Process

Whether due to weather conditions or other natural disasters, farmers often face the risk of crop failure. Crop loss not only breaks the farmers but also poses economic challenges. Even now, the threat of crop damage looms due to the intense cold weather. The fear of crops getting damaged intensifies during the biting cold of winter, affecting both Rabi and horticultural crops. Specifically, crops like wheat, gram, peas, mustard, barley, and lentils suffer significant losses. In such times, relief is provided to those farmers who have insured their crops, receiving compensation as a result.

For this purpose, farmers need to opt for crop insurance under the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY). If a farmer has insured their crops under this scheme, they can apply for compensation in case of losses. Adverse conditions such as heavy rainfall, drought, storms, cold waves, hailstorms, or any other natural calamity leading to crop damage can be covered under this scheme, and claims can be made accordingly.

When to Claim Crop Insurance:

Farmers under the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) can receive insurance claims in two scenarios. The first scenario is when the entire crop is destroyed due to a natural calamity. The second scenario is when the crop production falls below the average. In both situations, farmers can claim compensation through crop insurance.

Information Submission within 72 Hours:

Farmers must apply for compensation within 72 hours of the occurrence of crop damage due to a natural calamity. They need to provide information about the loss to the local office of the insurance company, relevant banks, local agricultural departments, and district officials. An application form must be filled out, including details about the cause of crop damage and comprehensive information related to the affected land.

Crops Covered by Insurance: Crops such as wheat, barley, gram, peas, lentils, mustard, flaxseed, and potatoes sown during the Rabi season can be insured. For more information related to PMFBY, farmers can visit the official portal of the scheme.
