A deep depression over northeastern Madhya Pradesh has been moving westward at 7 kmph over the past six hours. As of 05:30 IST on August 4, the system is centered at latitude 24.9°N and longitude 81.0°E. It is located approximately 40 km north-northeast of Satna, 100 km northwest of Sidhi, and 110 km east of Khajuraho.

The deep depression is expected to continue moving west-northwest across northern Madhya Pradesh and neighboring Uttar Pradesh, gradually weakening into a depression over the next 12 hours.

Heavy Rainfall and Flooding

Madhya Pradesh is experiencing heavy rainfall this monsoon season, with intense rain persisting across the state. In Bhopal, heavy rainfall since Saturday night has led to waterlogging in several areas. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in multiple districts, including Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, and Guna. Several rivers and streams are currently swollen.

So far, Madhya Pradesh has received more than 50% of its seasonal rainfall. Due to the heavy rains, many dams are now nearly full. The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours has been recorded in Gwalior, Chambal, Bhopal, Ujjain, Rewa, Jabalpur, and Shahdol.

Areas Affected by Strong Winds and Rain

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds has affected the following areas in the past 24 hours: Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Datiya, Bhind, Shyopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Maihar, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandurna, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, and Tikamgarh.

Bhopal's Upper Lake

Due to the significant rainfall, Bhopal’s Upper Lake is now at full capacity. The IMD has indicated that the heavy rainfall will continue. In response to the downpour, the gates of the Kaliyasot and Bhadbhada dams in Bhopal have been opened. Additionally, many of the major dams in Madhya Pradesh are nearing full capacity.
