Warning of heavy rain and landslide in Himachal-Uttarakhand

The northern regions of India are experiencing significant rainfall, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a heavy rainfall and landslide alert for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Here's the latest weather update:

Monsoon Trough Extends Across Key Regions:

According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon trough now stretches through Bikaner, Jaipur, and the center of a depression over north Jharkhand, extending to the northeast Bay of Bengal. This system is expected to bring widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, to East and Northeast India over the next five days.

Heavy Rainfall Alert in East & Northeast India:

The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in northwest Jharkhand on August 3. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the rest of Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and the northeastern states from August 3 to 6. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to experience very heavy rainfall on August 7 and 8, while Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand may see isolated heavy rainfall during the same period.

Landslide and Cloudburst Risks in Northwest Regions: The northwest regions, including Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue. Southeast Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall on August 3, with similar conditions anticipated in East Rajasthan on August 4. Heavy rainfall is also forecasted in Uttarakhand, West Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana-Chandigarh throughout the week. Recent cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have triggered landslides, resulting in casualties. Such incidents are common in these hilly areas during intense rainfall, but residents are advised to stay vigilant and prepared for significant weather impacts.
