The Uttar Pradesh government under Chief Minister Yogi is steadfastly committed to the welfare of farmers. Recently, the government made several announcements in the budget aimed at bolstering the agricultural sector. Another significant announcement has been made, particularly beneficial for potato farmers. The Yogi government declared the establishment of an international potato research center in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. This announcement came during the Buyer-Seller Meet program held in Agra, where Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi was also in attendance.

Farmers Stand to Gain:

Participating in the technical session of the Buyer-Seller Meet, Uttar Pradesh Horticulture Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh highlighted that, owing to the relentless efforts of the state's Chief Minister, plans are underway to establish a branch of the world's third international potato research center in Agra district. This initiative will provide farmers access to high-quality potato seeds and ultimately boost their income.

Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi emphasized the state government's efforts under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership. He mentioned the organization of an International Global Summit and an International Buyer-Seller Meet to align with the Prime Minister's objectives. The establishment of an international potato center in Agra, spearheaded by the Prime Minister's efforts, is expected to benefit potato farmers in Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur Mandal.

The Agriculture Minister noted that farmers are increasingly knowledgeable about crop production. The exhibition featured stalls showcasing various crops, providing information on vegetable production and modern agricultural techniques. Several companies engaged in potato chip manufacturing and potato-based products also participated in the conference.

MOU Signing:

During the Buyer-Seller Meet's concluding session, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed to expand the potato value chain. Participants included the Director of the Horticulture and Food Processing Department, along with representatives from Lulu Group, Bayer Crop Sciences, Axis Bank, Yara Fertilizers, and Bajaj Alliance. Agricultural experts also shared insights into the adoption of new techniques in potato cultivation. Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in potato production, contributing over one-third of the country's total potato output. Additionally, demonstrations of new Israeli techniques in potato production were showcased.
