India’s records new milestone in Garlic export

China's has been the market leader in Garlic export.

In the year 2022-23, the grip of China variety of Garlic has decreased in the international markets.
India on another hand has recorded a new milestone with its exports of  Garlic touching a new high of 47,329 metric tonnes (April 22 to January 23). According to data released by the Spices Board from April to January 2022-23. This export no. is 165 percent more than last year's figure for the same period and almost 200 percent more than the year 2021-22.

As per National Horticulture Board in the year 2022-23, the major Garlic producing in states in India in the top 10 featured Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarpradesh, Gujrat, Punjab, Asam, Orissa, Haryana, West Bangal and Maharashtra. Leading category of garlic production in India, these 10 states remain top in the pegging order of major Garlic producing states. 

Madhya Pradesh - 2016.13 metric ton is 62.85 percent of total production, Rajasthan - 539.18 metric ton is 16.81 percent of total production, Uttar Pradesh - 210.90 metric ton is 6.57 percent. Out of the total production, these 10 states together produce 3164.63 metric ton garlic in Indian (Data Source National Horticulture Board Year 2022-23) 
With the increasing exports, there has been a jump in the price of Garlic in the domestic market as well. In Uttar Pradesh, where the average price was Rs. 3700 to 4000 per quintal in June 2022, the average price in June 2023 has been from Rs. 4500 per quintal to Rs. 5000 per quintal. 

In Madhya Pradesh, the major producer of garlic, the average price in June 2022 has ranged from Rs 1800 per quintal to an average price of Rs 2300 per quintal. The same price of Garlic in corresponding month this year has seen a jump in 2023, crossing the average price of Rs 5000 per quintal to Rs 6000 per quintal. Garlic in India is a healthy proposition both for farmers wholesaler giving good profits to them. It is a safe spice right now to cultivate and sell.
