New Delhi (February 8th). Between December and January, the harsh cold along with fog and hail were witnessed. Now, in February, many parts of North India are experiencing rainfall. The rain, accompanied by strong winds, is disrupting people's lives. Its impact is also being observed on crops. Farmers are facing the challenge of protecting their crops from the rain. Meanwhile, the weather department has issued an alert regarding further rainfall in the coming days. According to the weather department, there may be rainfall in many parts of North India from February 9th to 11th. In such a situation, some advice has also been given to farmers.
According to the latest estimates of the weather department, on February 7th, there is a possibility of rain in northern Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, and various parts of these regions, and on February 8th and 9th, dense fog is likely to persist in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura during the morning hours. During the next 2 days, there is a possibility of a decrease in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius in many parts of North-West, East, and Central India, and thereafter, there will be no significant change. On February 7th, there is a possibility of cold wave conditions in various parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
Farmers are advised to harvest ripe fruits considering the rainfall. It is suggested that farmers cover clusters of papayas and bananas with plastic bags. In order to protect garden plants from mechanical damage in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, use hail nets or hail caps.
Harvested crops in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Northern Madhya Pradesh should be stored in safe places, and assistance should be provided to fruit plants in Himachal Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, and Western Madhya Pradesh. Provide support to vegetables to prevent them from falling due to strong winds. During strong winds, suspend irrigation and fertilizer application, avoid being outdoors or working in the fields, and keep animals indoors during the duration of storms/lightning.
