Northern India is in the grip of an intense cold wave as minimum temperatures continue to plummet across several regions. Yesterday, temperatures ranging from 3-6°C were observed in most plains of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and many parts of Uttar Pradesh. Notably, these temperatures were 2-4°C below normal in various areas, including parts of Uttarakhand, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The lowest minimum temperature recorded was a bone-chilling 2.7°C in Hisar (Haryana).

Meteorological authorities have issued a minimum temperature forecast and cold wave warnings for specific regions:

  1. Northwest & Central India: Expect a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C over the next 4-5 days.
  2. West India: A similar rise by 2-3°C is likely over Maharashtra for the next 2 days, with no significant change thereafter.
  3. Cold wave conditions are predicted in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha on the 27th & 28th. Bihar is also expected to experience cold wave conditions on the 27th of January.

Weather Outlook for next  2 to 5  Days :

The northern states are further warned about dense fog and cold day conditions. Dense to very dense fog is expected in several regions from the 27th of January to the 1st of February, impacting visibility during night/morning hours. Additionally, cold day to severe cold day conditions is likely to persist in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and isolated pockets of West Rajasthan. Looking at the weather outlook for the next two days, isolated places in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and northeast India may experience light rainfall/snowfall. Meanwhile, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands can anticipate light rainfall in isolated places. Residents are urged to stay prepared for the prolonged cold spell and adhere to safety measures.
