To boost India's agricultural sector, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is working on a plan to develop 100 new seed varieties using farm technology within a 100-day period. This initiative is part of the government's 100-day action plan, focusing on climate-resilient and bio-fortified seed varieties in addition to farm technology.
ICAR Director General Himanshu Pathak announced during the Technology Day celebrations that ICAR is working on two major action plans: developing 100 new seed varieties and 100 technologies within 100 days. ICAR has indicated that they are seeking time from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unveil these innovations. Worldwide, 5,521 scientists are collaborating with ICAR to develop new seed varieties for various crops, including rice, wheat, and horticulture.
ICAR is discussing the establishment of seed hubs for high-quality, high-yielding oilseed and pulse varieties at various institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. This includes extending the oilseed hubs to 174 districts and establishing model village hubs for pulse seeds in 130 districts. ICAR showcased 40 new technologies developed in 2023, with approximately 100 key industry players participating in this plan.

Outline of Products and Technologies: Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister inaugurated the 96th ICAR Foundation and Technology Day program on July 16. ICAR has developed a five-year strategy outlining new products and technologies. During the exhibition, technologies such as handheld devices for detecting nutrient and water deficiencies in crops, AI-IoT-enabled jute fiber grading systems, and bio-thermocol were showcased.
