Recently, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert for various regions in western and southern India. This warning is due to an active off-shore trough running along the south Gujarat-north Kerala coasts.
According to the IMD's forecast, Gujarat is expected to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days. Heavy rainfall is specifically anticipated in Vadodara, Daman, Dwarka, Bhuj, Porbandar, Dahod, Bhavnagar, and Rajkot. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is expected in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat weather, and Jamnagar. This rainfall is likely to provide much-needed relief from the heat, but residents should be prepared for potential waterlogging and disruptions in daily activities.
Gujarat will also face squally weather conditions with wind speeds ranging from 35 kmph to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph. These conditions could pose risks to coastal activities, necessitating caution and preparedness. Fishermen and those involved in coastal activities are particularly advised to stay alert and avoid venturing into the sea during this period. The strong winds might also lead to damage to trees and weak structures, so it’s essential to secure any loose items that could be affected by the gusts.
Rainfall Report from the Last 24 Hours: The last 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded in several areas of Gujarat, including Rajkot, Surat, Junagadh, Daman, Dwarka, Porbandar, Dahod, Kutch, Amreli, and Himatnagar. Notably, Vallabh Vidyanagar received 7 cm of rain, Gandhinagar 6 cm, and Ahmedabad 5 cm. This reflects the strong and active monsoon season currently affecting the region. These heavy showers have already led to waterlogging in some low-lying areas, and more such incidents can be expected if the heavy rains continue.
