Weather today: Flood threat in Gujarat, red alert issued, dam overflow, know the weather forecast across the country

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several regions across the country are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall today, 28th August, with some areas likely to face extremely heavy downpours. The most severe rainfall is anticipated in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, where isolated locations are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall. Continuous rain in the Gujarat region has led to waterlogging in over 27 districts. A red alert has been issued for key districts including Vadodara, Jamnagar, Junagadh, and Ahmedabad. The relentless downpour has also caused several dams to reach overflow levels. 

Additionally, very heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas of Southeast Rajasthan, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northern and Central India:

As per IMD, parts of North-Central India are also expected to witness heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms today, particularly in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

Weather Forecast for the Next 5 Days:

1. Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Muzaffarabad from 28th to 30th August.
2. Himachal Pradesh on 28th and 29th August.
3. Uttarakhand on 2nd September.
4. Punjab and West Rajasthan on 28th August.
5. East Rajasthan on 28th August 1st and 2nd September.
