In Bihar, the situation of increasing air pollution during the cold weather is being observed. The state government is taking strict measures regarding this and is going to impose strictness on farmers who burn crop residue (parali). The government has made it clear that if anyone burns crop residue (parali) this time as well, their paddy (dhan) will not be procured. Moreover, farmers will also be denied grants from various schemes received through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
It should be noted that with the onset of cold weather, the government has initiated strict measures due to the increasing air pollution. In the month of October, the level of air pollution is on the rise, according to the Air Quality Index. As the time for cutting rice is approaching, there is a growing concern about the situation deteriorating further. In this regard, orders have been issued to keep a special watch on blocks and panchayats. Where complaints of crop residue burning by farmers were previously received, stricter vigilance will be maintained. District officials have been directed to hold meetings with the owners and operators of combine harvesters before crop cutting season, warning them not to burn crop residue.
It is worth noting that prior to this, the Agriculture Department had already provided guidance on proper management instead of burning crop residue in fields such as rice fields in Khunti and Puwai. After the rice harvest, farmers often burn crop residue (parali) within their fields, causing damage to the atmosphere and making air pollution harmful.
