Farmers' income has doubled with the government's 'Aroma Mission

The Director-General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), N. Kalaiselvi, has stated that primarily due to the government's 'Aroma Mission,' farmers' income has more than doubled.

Kalaiselvi, while speaking to the media about the preparations for the 82nd Foundation Day celebration of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), mentioned that CSIR is working towards doubling the income of farmers. Under the Aroma Mission, farmers' income has increased by 2.5 times. The Aroma Mission is also known as the 'Purple Revolution.' This initiative has been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. Its aim is to generate rural employment for farmers engaged in the cultivation of aromatic crops.

The mission's objective is to promote entrepreneurship in the production of aromatic oils and other related products and reduce the import of essential and aromatic oils. Kalaiselvi noted that under the 'Purple Revolution,' the export of lemongrass (a medicinal plant) has increased by 600 times.

During the program, she mentioned that CSIR not only provides farmers with seeds and plants but also imparts knowledge about the farming process. She emphasized that CSIR is reaching out not only to farmers but also to their families. The organization supports the entire farming process and is not just confined to laboratory research.

Kalaiselvi stated, "Scientists are now reaching out to farmers. They go to paddy fields or wherever crops or plants are grown, and even after the harvest, they provide farmers with any assistance they need. On the occasion of CSIR's Foundation Day, the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, will be the Chief Guest. Additionally, the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S. Somanath, and the Secretary of the Department of Space will address the Foundation Day event. Twelve awardees will be honored with the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award-2022 during the program.
