Delay in Payments to Moong Farmers, Farmers' Anger Grows
Farmers Struggling Due to Payment Delays

Moong farmers in Madhya Pradesh are facing significant challenges due to delays in receiving payments for crops sold at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Thousands of farmers across the state are yet to be paid for the summer moong crop, with some waiting for over a month. Despite the government's earlier assurance that payments would be made within seven days of procurement, the delays have left many farmers distressed.

Farmers Struggling Due to Payment Delays:

Bhagwan Meena, the founder of Kisan Swaraj Sangathan in Sehore district, shared with Rural Voice that his payment has been pending for one and a half months. He highlighted that thousands of farmers are still waiting for their payments. Meena stressed that a farmer's livelihood depends entirely on agriculture. If payments for their crops are delayed, how can they support their families or prepare for the next season? He urged the government to expedite the payments to farmers as soon as possible.

Concerns of Around 1 Million Farmers Overlooked:

The State Cell President of Madhya Pradesh also weighed in on the issue, noting that nearly 1 million moong farmers in the state are still awaiting payment, with half of them yet to receive their dues. He pointed out that the government had initially claimed that payments would be made within a week, but this promise remains unfulfilled. He called on the government to take farmers' issues seriously. Throughout the procurement process, farmers faced numerous challenges. Although the government extended the procurement period, ongoing software glitches further complicated slot bookings, preventing many farmers from selling their crops at MSP.
