The "Krishi Udaan" scheme was announced by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the budget for the year 2021-22. Under this scheme, assistance will be provided to farmers for the transportation of agricultural products. This scheme is initiated with the support of the Ministry of Civil Aviation at the international, national, and regional levels. It aims to transport perishable goods such as crops, milk, fish, and meat from one place to another via aircraft, ensuring that crops and other products reach the market at the right time, and farmers receive fair prices.
Benefits of the scheme:
1. Subsidized air services will be made available to farmers under this scheme.
2. This scheme will be implemented on both international and domestic routes.
3. Funding, referred to as "Viability Gap Funding," will be allocated to farmers in a predetermined amount, which will be provided by both the central and state governments.
4. Half of the seats on flights will be offered to farmers at a discounted rate or lower prices.
5. Farmers will be able to reach the market with their products in minimal time, ensuring they receive the right price for their produce. This will also reduce the risk of spoilage.
6. Perishable goods like milk, fish, and meat can be timely transported to the market for sale and consumption by buyers.
