Dholpur Farmers Choose Mandis Over Government Wheat Purchase Schemes

In Dholpur, the government wheat procurement at the agricultural market by the highway has been disappointing this season. Even after a month and a half, not a single grain has been weighed on the government scale. The primary reason for this is that farmers are selling their crops to brokers who offer better prices than the government. As a result, it seems unlikely that Dholpur will meet its government wheat procurement target. Farmers are more inclined towards the market where they receive better prices and immediate payment.

Farmers Prefer Brokers Due to Minimal Price Difference:

The market, wheat prices range from ₹2300 to ₹2400 per quintal, whereas the government offers a support price of ₹2300 per quintal plus a bonus of ₹125. This small difference in price leads farmers to prefer the market for cash payments and immediate weighing. The market sees a daily arrival of 1000 to 1200 quintals of wheat.

Disappointing Situation in Government Procurement: Only one farmer registered for selling wheat to the government, but he didn't show up for the sale. Similarly, there is low interest in government procurement of mustard and gram. Although 2036 farmers registered for selling mustard, only 45% (930 farmers) actually came to sell. Satendra Singh Meena, Deputy Registrar of the Cooperative Society in Dholpur, mentioned that they are in constant contact with farmers. Due to the heat, farmers are arriving slowly.
