Between 5-8°C in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. These are normal, with several places in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh experiencing temperatures from -1.0°C to +1.0°C, and some places in Rajasthan and parts of Madhya Pradesh below -1.0°C to -3.0°C. Today, Sikar (Eastern Rajasthan) reported the lowest minimum temperature at -0.5°C. Yesterday, many parts of Punjab and Haryana experienced cold day conditions. Cold day conditions persisted in Chandigarh, Delhi, and small places in North-West Rajasthan. Current fog situation (0530 and 0830 IST today): Intense fog (visibility < 50 meters) in the morning over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya; dense fog (visibility 50-200 meters) over Haryana-Chandigarh, North-West Rajasthan, Bihar, and Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rain occurred in some places in South Tamil Nadu.

Weather systems and upcoming 5-day forecast and warnings:

Around January 15, 2024, favourable conditions for the North-East monsoon rains are expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe, and the coastal Andhra Pradesh around Yanam, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka. In the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain is likely in several places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep, followed by the likelihood of dry weather.

Severe fog and cold warning:

  • There is a high probability of dense fog for a few hours in some parts of Punjab and Haryana, including small and large parts of Chandigarh, from January 11 to 15.
  • There is a high probability of dense fog in some parts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and small and large parts of Western Uttar Pradesh on January 11 and 12, followed by fog for the next 3 days.
  • On January 11, dense fog is likely in the Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jammu division, and on January 11 and 12, in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya until January 15. 
  • In some parts of Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh, from January 11 to 15, there is a high probability of continuing intense to severe cold for a few hours in the morning.

Temperature forecast and cold wave warning: 

  • Over the next 3 days, a gradual decrease of 2-3°C in minimum temperatures is likely in several parts of Central and Eastern India, with no significant changes afterward.
  • There is a high probability of the cold wave occurring on January 11 and 12 in some parts of Rajasthan and a possibility of the cold wave situation persisting in small and large parts on January 13, 2024.
  • On January 11 and 12, there is a likelihood of a cold wave in some parts of Punjab and Haryana. Additionally, some parts of Uttarakhand and Rajasthan may experience snowfall.
