In a recent report by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), minimum temperatures plummeted to 2-5°C in various parts of Punjab and 6-10°C in some areas of Haryana-Chandigarh and Delhi. The IMD predicts dense to very dense fog conditions prevailing in late night and morning hours from 18th to 20th January across many/some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, with isolated pockets affected on 21st & 22nd January.

Uttar Pradesh Schools closed till January 20:

The cold wave has significantly impacted school life in several states. Uttar Pradesh had previously announced school closures in multiple districts until 20th January, with the 22nd declared a state holiday due to the auspicious inauguration of the Ram Mandir. Delhi's education minister has now taken a similar stance, although schools remain open with adjusted timings. The decision aims to accommodate the severe cold days affecting Delhi, Noida, and various northern regions, allowing schools to start later in the morning.

This trend is not exclusive to Delhi the Madhya Pradesh government has also implemented measures due to the harsh weather conditions, resulting in delayed school openings. Additionally, several states, including Haryana, Chhattisgarh, and Goa, have pre-emptively declared a school holiday on the 22nd of January. As winter tightens its grip, educational institutions are adapting to ensure the safety and well-being of students amidst the challenging weather conditions.
