As severe heat grips northwestern India, residents are struggling with intense temperatures. Meanwhile, Cyclone Remal has started to unleash heavy rainfall in the northeastern states. According to the Meteorological Department, heatwave conditions are expected to continue until May 30 in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. On May 27, due to the cyclone, rain and strong winds are anticipated in several areas of West Bengal, including Digha, Kakdwip, and Jaynagar. Additionally, alerts for rain and strong winds have been issued for Bihar weather, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states.
Monsoon-like weather is affecting various regions of the country. Light to moderate rain, with occasional heavy downpours, is likely in interior Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Light rain is also expected in parts of Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Konkan and Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, strong winds in southwestern areas are expected to cause a 2-to-3-degree Celsius drop in maximum temperatures in Gujarat and Rajasthan. However, heatwave conditions may persist in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
Late on the night of May 26, Cyclone Remal made landfall in West Bengal with wind speeds exceeding 135 kilometers per hour. The cyclone struck the coastal areas of Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal, bringing heavy rainfall. Many homes and fields were inundated, affecting a significant number of people.
