Severe Cyclonic Storm "MICHAUNG" made a forceful entrance onto the south Andhra Pradesh coast, crossing near Bapatla with sustained winds reaching 90-100 kmph and gusts up to 110 kmph between 12:30 - 14:30 hrs IST on December 5, 2023. Since then, it has undergone a rapid transformation, weakening into a Deep Depression over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and further degrading into a Depression over northeast Telangana & adjoining south Chhattisgarh-south interior Odisha coast by 05:30 hrs IST on December 6, 2023. The system has now diminished to a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Northeast Telangana and adjoining regions.

As the cyclone dissipates, meteorologists issue rainfall warnings, for various regions. On December 6, expect light to moderate rainfall in many places with isolated heavy rainfall over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. Looking ahead to December 8-9, Kerala, Mahe, and Tamil Nadu may experience light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls. Additionally, on December 7, dense fog during morning hours is likely in isolated pockets over Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh.

The aftermath of MICHAUNG has already left its mark, with heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy falls observed at isolated places over Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, isolated areas in Tamil Nadu and Odisha have also witnessed heavy rainfall, emphasizing the far-reaching impact of the cyclonic system.
