There is good news for the farmers of Odisha. From this Kharif season, the state government will bear the premium share of the farmers from its own resources under the crop insurance scheme. This information has been given in a proposal issued by the State Cooperative Department in Odisha. This decision will benefit small and marginal farmers. Along with this, it is expected that the coverage of farmers and cultivated areas will also increase.

It is noteworthy that Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been implemented from the year 2016. The difference amount of its premium is paid as a subsidy. The decision to bear the farmers' share in the PMFBY i.e., PM Crop Insurance Scheme was taken by the state government so that small and marginal farmers are not deprived of the benefits of the scheme due to lack of premium amount. According to Dainik Jagran's report, official sources say that such a decision has been taken by the Odisha government in the interest of the farmers. With this, the coverage of farmers and cultivated area can also be increased. The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been implemented in the state since 2016 to protect farmers from possible losses to their Kharif crops due to the vagaries of weather.
