According to media reports, Dr. Gyanendra Singh, the director of the Indian Wheat and Barley Research Institute (IWBRI), has deemed this weather favorable for wheat crops. He stated that the ongoing cold wave and chill are proving to be a boon for wheat cultivation. He mentioned that if there is light rain in the next few days, it will be even better for wheat producers, resulting in a higher yield.

As per media reports, experts in major wheat-producing states, including Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, are also expressing optimism about a good harvest. Agricultural experts suggest that the ongoing intense cold is aiding the rapid growth of wheat crops. Remarkably, there is no sign of diseases like yellow rust affecting the crops. Additionally, the weather department has forecasted dense fog to persist in North India for the next 24 hours.

Low Temperature Beneficial for Wheat: According to experts, temperatures below normal are most beneficial for wheat in the Rabi season. The increased cold and chill lead to more nutritious wheat grains. Dr. Gyanendra Singh, director of IWBRI, mentioned that after surveying the extensive wheat sowing belt across the country, there have been no reports or indications of yellow rust or any other diseases so far.

Anticipating a Bumper Wheat Crop: Observing this weather, experts have suggested that along with the cold wave, wheat crops should receive adequate sunlight. They also recommend light irrigation for mustard and vegetable growers to mitigate the effects of the cold weather. It is hoped that this time the country will achieve the estimated wheat production target set by the government, which is expected to reach up to 114 million tons.
