Punjab's Chief Secretary's important orders: 60% DAP Stock Purchase Instructed, Traders Holding Significant Stock After the failure of the Punjab State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (MARKFED) to purchase the necessary stock of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) before the Rabi sowing season, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma has issued crucial orders. Under this, the Chief Secretary has directed MARKFED and the State Agriculture Department to work together to fulfill the shortage. The orders state that it should be ensured that 60% of the required total DAP for wheat sowing in the state is made available to cooperative societies by September 15th.

It's worth noting that two state bodies, MARKFED and the Agriculture Department, are blaming each other for the shortfall, as private traders have already procured 90% of the stock available in the market. According to Gurvinder Singh, the Agriculture Director, the delay on the part of MARKFED in procuring the stock has helped private traders in taking a significant share of the necessary DAP for wheat sowing. An agriculture department official said, "So far, MARKFED and cooperative societies were supposed to procure 2 lakh tons, but they have only 10% (20,000 tons) of it.
