Banana Development Scheme: Banana farming is an important crop that can significantly enhance farmers' income. The Bihar government has launched the 'Banana Development Scheme' aimed at promoting banana cultivation in various districts of the state. Under this scheme, farmers receive numerous benefits and subsidies to improve their crop yield and quality.
The scheme will extend banana cultivation to the following 15 districts in Bihar:
Arwal, Bhojpur, Buxar, Gopalganj, Jehanabad, Kaimur, Lakhisarai, Madhepura, Nawada, Saran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Siwan, Supaul, and Sheikhpura. The promotion of banana farming in these districts will help increase farmers' income.
Eligibility for Farmers: Farmers can benefit from this scheme for a minimum area of 0.25 acres (0.1 hectares) and a maximum of 10 acres (4 hectares), allowing both small and large farmers to take advantage.
Supply of Tissue Culture Banana Plants: The selection of the agency for supplying tissue culture banana plants will be conducted through a tender process. The mission director of the Bihar State Horticulture Mission will be responsible for this selection process, ensuring that farmers receive high-quality plants to improve their crop yield and quality.
Grant Amount and Distribution: Under this scheme, the subsidy amount per hectare for banana farming is ₹46,875 for the first year and ₹15,625 for the second year. This financial aid will help farmers manage their farming expenses and achieve better results.
Benefits for Tenant and Non-Tenant Farmers: Both tenant farmers, with proof of land ownership, and non-tenant farmers, with an agreement, can avail of the scheme's benefits.
Beneficiary Selection and Categories: Beneficiaries will be selected with the following allocation: 78.56% for the general category, 20% for Scheduled Castes, and 1.44% for Scheduled Tribes. Additionally, 30% participation by women will be ensured in each category to guarantee the scheme's benefits reach all sections of society.
Women's Participation: The scheme ensures 30% participation by women in each category, encouraging women in agriculture and helping them achieve economic empowerment.
