Bihar, makhana (fox nut) farming is a major source of income for local farmers. However, many farmers lack proper storage facilities, leading to significant crop waste and financial losses. To address this issue, the Bihar government has launched a new scheme to help farmers store their makhana securely.

Subsidy for Makhana Storage in Bihar:

Under the National Agriculture Development Scheme, the Bihar government has announced a significant subsidy for farmers to establish makhana storage units (5 MT). The government will provide up to a 75% subsidy for building these storage facilities. This means that out of the total cost of Rs. 10 lakh, the government will cover Rs. 7.5 lakh.

Assistance with Installments: The subsidy amount will be distributed in two installments:

  1. First Installment: Rs. 2.5 lakh will be provided once the construction reaches the lintel level.
  2. Second Installment: The remaining Rs. 5 lakh will be provided after the completion and inspection of the construction.

Objectives and Benefits of the Subsidy:

  1. The primary objective is to provide farmers with proper storage facilities for makhana, ensuring the quality of the crop and securing better market prices. This scheme is a significant step towards economically empowering farmers.
