The Bihar government has launched a new scheme to promote Kharif onion cultivation. The main objective of this scheme is to encourage farmers to grow Kharif onions and increase their production. Objectives of the Scheme: The primary goal of this scheme is to motivate farmers to cultivate Kharif onions and boost their production. The government believes that this scheme will not only meet the shortage of onions but also increase the income of farmers.

List of Districts Under the Scheme: The Kharif Onion Area Expansion Scheme will be implemented in 10 districts of Bihar. These districts are.

7. Patna
8. Rohtas
9. Samastipur
10. Vaishali

Benefits and Limits of the Scheme: Farmers will benefit from the scheme by cultivating a minimum of 0.25 acres (0.1 hectares) and a maximum of 2.5 acres (1 hectare). This ensures that both small and large farmers can take advantage of this scheme.

Seed rate and cost: For Kharif onion cultivation, 10 kilograms of seeds per hectare will be required. The estimated price of seeds is ₹2,000 per kilogram. The price of seeds will be determined according to the actual market rate, whichever is lower.

Unit Cost and Subsidy: The anticipated unit cost per hectare, encompassing the seed price, is estimated at ₹1,20,000. As per Schedule 2, a subsidy of 50%, amounting to ₹60,000 per hectare, will be granted.

Subsidy Payment Process: According to the scheme, a subsidy of ₹60,000 per hectare will be granted. This amount will be disbursed in two installments:

1. First installment: ₹37,500 (for inputs and materials used in cultivation)
2. Second installment: ₹22,500 (after inspection and physical verification post-transplanting)

Seed Availability: The availability of seeds will be ensured by the Bihar State Seed Corporation, Bihar, Patna. Farmers will be able to obtain seeds in their respective districts.

2. General category: 78.56%
3. Scheduled Caste: 20%
4. Scheduled Tribe: 1.44%
5. Each category, the participation of women will be ensured at 30%.
