Punjab State Government's khetivyapar.com Agriculture News: The arrival of fresh cotton crops has begun in the mandis of Punjab, and the initial prices have brought joy among the farmers. According to reports, on the first day of cotton arrival in Muktsar Grain Market, the minimum support price (MSP) for cotton was Rs. 6,225 per quintal, compared to the minimum support price of Rs. 10,251 per quintal. This has brought a lot of happiness among the farmers. The demand for cotton from Indian farmers has increased due to crop damage in Pakistan and the boycott of cotton produced in China by American mills.
Despite continuous pest attacks, the remaining cotton crop in Punjab has had a good start to the year. For 27.5-28.5 mm staple varieties, the new cotton crop is fetching more than Rs. 9,500 per quintal, compared to the minimum support price of Rs. 6,280 per quintal. Some cotton farmers claim that prices in nearby Fazilka district are approximately the same. They believe that in the coming days, prices rise due to the higher demand from cotton mills this year. Meanwhile, according to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association, heavy rains have caused floods in their region, resulting in the destruction of 40% of the cotton crop. On the other hand, the United States has imposed a boycott on goods produced in Jiangxiang (China), especially cotton. As a result, there has been a 3.7% decrease in imports compared to the previous year. China is the source of 21.5% of American cotton imports, and India's share has increased from 16.5% to 19.2% in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
