The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update for August 7, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in various parts of India. Here are the key highlights:

Areas Likely to Experience Heavy Rainfall Today

Very Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall: The IMD has predicted that today, some areas in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura could experience very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

Heavy Rainfall: Heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Jammu division, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Telangana.

Thunderstorm and Lightning Alert

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Rainfall Recorded Yesterday

  • Assam and Meghalaya: Majbat received 7 cm, Goalpara 2 cm.
  • Bihar: Supaul and Gaya recorded 2 cm each.
  • Jharkhand: Daltonganj received 7 cm.
  • Odisha: Keonjhargarh received 4 cm, Dhenkanal 3 cm, Sambalpur 1 cm.
  • East Uttar Pradesh: Babatpur and Varanasi recorded 4 cm each, Gazipur 3 cm.
  • Uttarakhand: Dehradun received 2 cm.
  • Himachal Pradesh: Shimla recorded 2 cm.
  • West Rajasthan: Jodhpur received 2 cm.
  • East Rajasthan: Sikar recorded 1 cm.
  • Coastal Karnataka: Honavar and Mangalore received 3 cm each.
  • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal: Tiruttani recorded 1 cm.
  • Kerala and Mahe: Kannur received 3 cm, Cannanore 2 cm.
  • Rayalaseema: Tirupathi received 4 cm, Cuddapah 1 cm.
  • Chhattisgarh: Jagdalpur recorded 12 cm, Raipur and Pandra Road received 3 cm each.

Monsoon Trough and Cyclonic Circulation

The monsoon trough at mean sea level now extends from Ganganagar, Hisar, Agra, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, and Digha, and then southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal.
A cyclonic circulation persists over central Pakistan and its neighboring areas, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
