The Chhattisgarh government has decided to purchase rice from farmers at support prices from November 1st. Officials from the Public Relations Department have stated that during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the policy for the procurement of rice and maize at support prices and "custom milling" for the Kharif marketing year 2023-24 was determined. Under this policy, rice and maize will be purchased at the support prices announced by the Indian government.
They mentioned that the procurement of Kharif rice from farmers at support prices will continue from November 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024. Similarly, maize procurement will be conducted from November 1, 2023, to February 28, 2024.
In the budget session of the Legislative Assembly this year, Chief Minister Baghel had announced the purchase of 20 quintals of rice per acre from farmers, which was previously 15 quintals per acre.
They also mentioned that during the cabinet meeting, it was decided to extend the validity of the government guarantee (amounting to 14,700 crores) for paddy procurement by the Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (Markfed) for one more year until October 31, 2024.
Officials further explained that the cabinet approved a 15% discount provided by the state government to journalists on the purchase of houses in Raipur's Kaushalya Mata Vihar. The cabinet approved a sum of 6 crores, 37 lakhs, and 20 thousand 450 rupees for the discount to be given to 309 journalists during the cabinet meeting.
They also mentioned that the cabinet decided to appoint senior journalist Sudip Thakur as the Director (Contractual) of the Chhattisgarh State Hindi Granth Academy.
